His Eye is On the Sparrow...

As always—because I need the exhortation/encouragement myself.

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;

I sing because I'm happy!
I sing because I'm free!
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

  1. That is a beautiful and encouraging poem, Marissa! So very true. The Lord's care is always there for us, no matter how dark the road. His love abounds more than our finite minds can ever comprehend. What joy and peace we find in His presence.

    Thank you for sharing.

  2. "I sing because I'm happy!
    I sing because I'm free!"

    Amen!
    You know sometimes I realize that I let the things of this world actually take me captive and I lose that sense of freedom, the whole reason why Christ
    died for me. Then it's time to take it back to the Cross and lay my burdens down, then I can sing that song again!
